Thanks!!
What to avoid: Your challenge is not to scorch the nylon outer shell in which will cause it to burn or melt. Low or no heat is best, air drying is best but avoid direct burning blazing sunlight.
- Washing Machines OK: use very little mild detergent on low heat and gentle cycle.
- Do not dry clean: Dry cleaning chemicals are too harsh and we don't trust your dry cleaner to avoid scorching your blanket to death.
Drying: Use low/no heat when putting in a dryer. Hot spots can melt the nylon fabric. You may throw a tennis ball or two into the dryer for an extra lofty effect, however, this works best on down products, but this trick still works well on synthetic products. Air Dry is the best method and the synthetic fill will dry much faster than its down counterpart. Please avoid direct sunlight for a long period of time to avoid scorching the outer nylon shell.
Detergents: You can use a performance wash or tech wash made for high-performance fabrics as these soaps will clean your blanket without damaging its DWR finish. Or you can use a minimal amount of mild detergent.
Wet Gear: This blanket will get extremely heavy when wet, so try to remove as much water as possible before removing it from the washer, the weight can put stress on the stitching so be gentle.
- Storage: It's best to leave your blanket out of its stuff sack for long term storage to keep the fill lofty. In fact, the longer the blanket breaths air, the loftier and puffier it gets. You may notice the blanket is flat and thin when you first pull it out of the stuff sack. Just be patient and give it a few to take some deep breaths and it will puff right up.
Hopefully, these directions are helpful and will keep your blanket free from damage and going on your adventures for years to come. Please let us know if you have any further questions or improvement ideas for the washing process by reaching out directly to leaving a comment below.
